I guess I'm afraid of falling from heights or something, except it's strange... I'm gonna be going to a water park (with roller coasters, obviously) with friends soon, and I'm scared of roller coasters. I'd be fine if it was just a drop on a water slide, but for some reason I'm terrified of drops on roller coasters. My friends are roller coaster fanatics and I don't want to spoil their fun or ride alone. That's why I don't want to ride only the smallest kiddy-type ones and increase in size gradually. I also don't think I can handle riding a big one right away. Last time I tried that, I completely freaked out right before I got on and chickened out in the end. What do I do?

Well, I want to say, "Deal with it. You'll survive and be glad you overcame your fears." But If you are only going to be there for a day try smaller roller coasters if you have an amusement park near you. Otherwise I'd say just ride the coaster, and if it doesn't make you sick, it helps to keep your eyes closed and when a ride scares me, which is unusual, I pray because it relaxes me, if there is something you do that relaxes you and you can do it on a roller coaster (like singing... probably in your head) try and do that. Screaming, laughing.... laughing is actually a good one. Pretend you aren't scared. Fear is mental so just fill your mind with other thoughts.

If you ride them with friend's, it's completely awesome. I used to be afraid of things like that, but then after going to Universal Studios with some friends, it became fun. Then a few years later, I went on a band trip to Disneyland, and it was awesome. Fast forward another year, SIX FLAGS = AWESOME.
Trust me, just go on the biggest thing you can and be with some friends. It's much less scary with a friend, and once you've ridden that big coaster, everything else from that point is awesome. Dammit, thinking about roller coasters makes me want to go back to Six Flags. Riding on the smallest to largest just builds up the tension, it's much easier to get on the biggest one first, you might have the crap scared out of you, but once you get off, it feels like you could tackle any coaster in the world.

Roller coasters are scary. They're meant to be scary, built to be scary. Vertigo is your body's way of telling you that it doesn't want to die, completely natural when looking over the edge of a long drop. I've parachuted out of plains before and, believe me, getting on a big roller coaster is sarrier. Some people get off on this stuff.
It's kind of like taking a hard medicine. You just toughen up and do it. Tell yourself it's perfectly safe, kind of cool, and not really uncomfortable. The thing about those coasters is after you've gone on it once, it's really fun with the wind in your hair, speeding past things. So if you can get through it once, you can do the same ride again and again until it's a piece of cake, like crossing the sreet. To do it that first time you kind of have to shut your brain off, and your nerves, and anything else, like getting ready for a big syringe or something. Just think of something else.

try a small roller coaster first and work your way up to the most extreme one. if the park rates their rides from one to five start with a one, and by the end of the day you be ready to ride a roller coaster that is a five. working your way up to the biggers roller coaster can help you overcome your fear

the drops r my least fave part of a roller coaster (though they still rock!!). I usually hold my breath or breathe out when the roller coaster goes down a drop. Otherwise i feel i like puking! it always works 4 me!

Watch the faces and the actions of the people that just got offf the ride you're afraid of. If alof of their faces look flushed(pale) it's a damn scary ride! "Top Fuel Dragster" at www.cedarpoint.com is one of those rides! If the riders exiting the ride are all smiling and hoopin and a hollerin and runnin for the end of the line to ride again. You wanna ride that coaster!

Yeah, I'm the same way. I don't wanna feel left out. I FORCE myself to go on. I squeeze my eyes shut, clench my teeth, and wait for the fun to stop.
Imagine that you're on a reality TV show, and if you successfully ride these rollercoasters, your team will win and you each get a million dollars.

Just try one out. I used to be scaried of them, too. I was much younger...like 9 or 10. My first rollercoaster ride was on "The Comet" at Hershey Park. Pretty soon, it was too tame!
