The mirror is clear glass, but it is backed by a material that they call "silver" Old mirrors that have black spots where they no longer reflect can be re-silvered.
If you are painting a picture of a mirror, you'll use greys, whites, blues, and try to reflect what could be the colour of the opposite scenery.

when you go from black to white, more light is reflected from the surface, so i figure that a mirror is a light white color,

whatever the color is, it's that color.... but usually, it's gonna be silver/chrome, yeah.
