It won't stop spinning. I read somewhere that it would take an asteroid one third the size of the earth to destroy the earth and even that would most likely leave some big chunks and I'mlmost sure that those would go on spinning. Now I wonder if you meant if we will make the earth into something we can no longer live on anytime soon, and the way things are going I'd guess sooner than later, but the ol' earth probably won't mind. :)

The Earth would not stop spinning because it is not the way the the world ends.

This is the way:
1. The Sun will spent up it's energy source: hidrogen and nitrogen.
2. The Sun will expand many times into a Red Giant
3. The Sun will engulf everything near it: nearest planets first: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and then Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto
4. The Sun Will shrink into a very massive small object and becomes a Black Hole...

This is the scientific theory of "The Doomsday", and it will not happen until 5,000,000,000 years from now, because the Sun's energy source is still abundant.

It is true that earth keeps slowing down and in a matter of billion years will stop spining for a while (thousands years) and start spinning the other way around (in acceleration) and so on so forth... It is more probable though that long before all that a huge asteroid will cause it to completelly decompose ("explode") to bits...

It was apparantly thrown into this spin with the big bang but it is slowing down and the rate is so slow there probably wont be an existance of life let alone human life so i wouldnt worry about it .
