Kids fight when they are bored. Give them projects to do. Invest some time with them yourself.

Go and each of you pick a bouquet of wildflowers. Spread newspaper on the table if you want and then let them observe so they can do it themselves, how you prepare them for a vase. Plastic will do for the kids.

Hide pennies in a room and while you supervise, (no pennies in the mouths), let them find them all. Then take them to the store to pick something out. (You can supplement the pennies so they have enough - it doesn't have to be expensive.) Or you can have them make shapes out of colored paper, then you hide them around the room and tell them to bring you the shape and color you ask for... it's fun and teaches at the same time.

Cut out the two large sides of a cereal box and have them make a picture on it. Then cut it to make a puzzle. It's better if they do these things themselves, but you have to supervise of course.

Have your little girl read to her brother. It doesn't matter if she can, it will make her feel responsible.

Give them tasks to do and praise them when they do them well.

Kids aren't born socialized. They learn from the adults they are around. Help your children now. Doing that is way more important than making sure the floor is spotless.

Have fun and enjoy them.

Spank them. Then make them spend all the time together. My daughter is 10 so she is to old to spank, and some people think that's wrong anyway. She has a girlfriend that is practically my daughter, when they fight I make them sit and stare at each other until they laugh. I don't know if this will work on children as young as 5 and 3 though. My mom just seperated us (2 brothers) when I was a child. good luck at whatever you do. Kids drive me nuts!
