I used inexpensive twirlie bops. I really don't know their real name, but they are inexpensive star looking things that spin on a stick that you embedd in the ground or container dirt. I have large ones and several small ones all around the area in which I don't want the birds. Most of the small ones are made of shiny plastic and were under $2.00 at discounters. I find them in the children's area of discount stores, I gather they play with them. The large ones I find are usually made of nylon, make a 360 degree turn while spinning. I leave them out all year so the birds never get used to landing around the area. I add a couple every year to new areas and they seem to work. The larger ones I find at waterfountain shops, souvenier shops by the beach, kite stores and some nurseries. I do live in a canyon where there is a breeze most of the time, however. But they work even when there isn't a breeze because the birdies don't like landing on something that moves.

Sorry but bird netting is the only practical method.

Scare crows, streemers, fake owls or snakes - none of those really work.

Adam O, if that's your real picture I suggest you just go and stand in the orchard.
