According to Amnesty International, more than 166 citizens have died after being tasered by the police and in most of the situations, the suspect wasnt threatening to police. Tasers are bing used on citizens for small reasons where as in the days before tasers, police officers would have to negotiate, nowadays its taser the person first then ask questions.

The suspect doesn't have to be obviously threatening police. Any refusal to do exactly what the officer says immediately is a sign that the officer may be in danger. do what the officer says right now and you won't get zapped!!

You go put your life on the line everyday for ungrateful citizens and see what appears to be threat and what doesn't.

Before an officer gets issued a taser, they must be certified to use it. Part of this certification is getting hit with..at some agencies getting hit a couple of times. So, they have a sense of what pain it inflicts upon the recipient.
However, bottom line, every cop wants to go home at the end of shift. Anything that might hinder their chances of doing that is a threat. The taser is a tool useful at lowering those threats which raises the chances the cop gets to go home and not to the hospital or in a body bag.
And I cannot understand why people seem to fear the police so much. I have done some things that I shouldn't have and whenever I got caught I have never had a cop act aggressive towards me in anyway. Cops REACT, not just arbitrarily ACT. The suspect causes how the cop handles the situation.
And Amnesty International uses facts and bits of facts to make their point--not always the full, big picture. If we left it up to them, we should abolish all law enforcement agencies since officers can never do the job properly. Wouldn't it be a wonderful safe place to live without any police officers, just ask Amnesty International.

They are less lethal than guns. It does not mean that they cannot kill. It means the chances are less. It is a much better option than using a gun on people. I am sure there is misuse however you deal with the human factor even with police. They make mistakes, get frustrated and even panic just like regular people. One can only hope their training keeps them professional most of the time. Just think how many people might have been saved by using tasers rather than guns.

That is because back in the day cops actually wanted to protect people. Now they like the power and control. They think they are better than us and to show it they have a badge, gun, and tasers, and to them it feels good when they use them.

well you can either be shot by their gun or tazer. i'd like a chance of not having major surgery and a chance at surviving the encounter. all threats are relative, and most cops won't get away with playing with their tazers.
