According to Amnesty International, more than 166 citizens have died after being tasered by the police and in most of the situations, the suspect wasnt threatening to police. Tasers are bing used on citizens for small reasons where as in the days before tasers, police officers would have to negotiate, nowadays its taser the person first then ask questions.

I've got a better idea, stop blaming the cops for what criminals do. Law Enforcement use Tazers on individuals that are non-compliant, there is absolutely no reason that a person being placed under arrest should have the opportunity to harm an officer or an innocent bystander. Law enforcement put them selves in harms way everyday and any tool that will allow them to go home to their families uninjured is a bonus. We do not use Tazers first then ask questions later, just like we don't shoot first. It's called sensationalism and it’s rampant in the media. Too many believe that these news articles are the whole truth and believe what ever they say, which is why they get sued so often or are forced to retract statements or complain that they weren’t given access to all the information when they printed the story. You also mentioned Amnesty International, now there's a good joke. Did you know that there reports are not even circulated in government channels because they are so biased. A.I. wants to live in a utopia, where everything will be OK. The organization is always quick to point out problems but never any real world solutions. Do people do bad things everyday, you bet. Everybody does, I ran a stop light yesterday, I could have caused a wreck, but I didn’t. I also wouldn’t have blamed a Police officer for giving me a ticket.

Your points are well taken. Initially, tasers were seen as a viable alternative to choke holds and other potentially lethal techniques commonly used to subdue suspects. The problem isn't necessarily the use of the taser as much as it is the production of increasingly more powerful tasers. The newer tasers deliver much more voltage and increase the risk that suspects will die, even from a single shock. Perhaps citizens need to organize and require that their law enforcement authorities use tasers with less voltage.

Try riding around with your local police at night,,, you'll get the message why they have to defend themselves. Criminals may be regular people to you and Amnesty Int'l; but they are animals who need to be in cages.

police undergo being tasered before they use it so they know what they're doing.
