I am 26 weeks along. I am having a baby boy. I have an at home heart doppler. Today, my son's heartbeat was at 163 twice. It always goes down though. Do you think I should be worried? My ob/gyn is out today so I cannot call them.

That seems pretty normal to me. But if you are concerned you should go to the emergency room or you can call up the Emergency room and just ask them over the telephone.

See the problem with those at home heart dopplers are just this. You constantly use them to hear babys' heartbeat and you are almost looking for a problem with the baby.

well. good LUck and I hope you have a happy healthy baby boy!!Congrats

At that age in utero, their heartbeat will go up and down CONSTANTLY! As long as its between 160 and 130 hes a happy baby. Remember too that their heartbeat goes down when they are asleep, so you might have caught him drifting off into a nap. Your next appt. tell your OB and they may schedule a non stress test for you. You sit hooked up to a moniter for 20 minutes-2 hours. Usually you only go 20 minutes and the doctor is happy and the baby is fine. Don't stress out ok? That can put stress on the baby.

It should be fine. Some babies have days where they are more active then others, so their heartrate will go up. Normal baby heartrate is between 140-170. So, it's well in the range of normal. If you are really worried, call labor and delivery at the hospital and ask to talk to a nurse. They can tell you what they think. It's never a bad thing to be caustious, especially when you are taking about an unborn baby. Good luck, but don't worry too much!!!

I had a non-stress test done on my baby because of lack of movement. Well, every time she would move around a lot it would go way up to like 170. But when she was being still and probably asleep it would go all the way down to like 120 or lower. And that's actually what they wanted to happen. It's perfectly normal for it to vary so much between whether they are moving or resting.

no the babys heart rate should be between 120 and 160.
so 162 is fine
only be worried if the heart beat goes below 120.
unless its jsut for a few mins cause babys sleep
in 20 min cycles and the adverage heart beat for
a baby is between 120 and 160 so.
if it goes above 160 and does not come back
down than you should be worried

I think it's actually better to not monitor your baby's hear beat. That is your obgyn job, not yours. All it's doing is stressing you out when in fact there is nothing for you to worry about. Putting stress on you isn't good for you or the baby. Call your doctor and have him or her relieve your mind then don't monitor the heart beat any more. Relax and enjoy the time your pregnant. Before you know it you will have your healthy little boy in your arms.

I know that the average newborn has a heart beat of 120 to 160 beats per minute. The baby is probably fine

My sons heartbeat was always in the 150's to 160's range throughout the whole pregnancy. My doctor said that it was because he was active...hope that helps. It's always good to call your doctor or emergency room to ease your mind. Good luck!!
