Homage to Catalonia is Orwell's account of the Spanish Civil War, which took place between 1935 and 1937. It marked the first major conflict between the forces of Fascism and the forces of Democracy.

Orwell fought on the side of the Spanish Nationalists, who were fight Francisco Franco, who had allied himself with Nazi Germany. The book recounts the battles of that period, both the internal political battles as well as the battles with the Fascists.

I would really encourage you to read it, even if just the last few chapters, because its a great book.
