I was told when I bought it that the head would probably need to be re tightened. What are the torque specs for this model? Also, what pattern should I tighten them in?

If it was done right with Honda parts it shouldnt really need tightening. Dont have spec but it uses 10mm dia bolts (12 or 14mm heads) so they will be around 28ft/lbs, 6mm (10mm head) about 9ft/lbs and the 8mm about 16ft/lbs (12mm head)

change the oil frequently after a rebuild

yes, get the correct torque settings and pattern. The pattern is probably to gradually tighten opposite bolts.

Dont forget to readjust the camchain after tightening the bolts (as I did!)
