Bring a pillow and small blanket. Long pants and long sleeve shirt. Maybe bring your own small roll of toilet paper. Oh and bug spray.

Take a towel, and bring linens if the hostel doesn't have them. Also, bring flip-flops for showering- fungus is not fun. Get a locker, if they have them- the $3-5 (or euros) are well worth it.
If you're sharing a room with people you don't know, bring a fanny pack and put your ID and money there, under your pj (or shirt)- better safe than sorry.
I spent lots of time traveling and staying in hostels, and fortunately, I've only had amazing experiences
Have fun!

BUg spray is very important, unless you pay more and go in a hotel! at least you do not have to worry about bugs, you don't have to bring your own towels! but you gotta also take your passport, money(try to take traveller checks or credit/debit cards, just in case someone is trying to rob you you can call your bank and they take care of it!
if you got any other question, let me know! oh and take your student id sometimes you get it cheaper!have fun!
