Engines don't make much noise - it's the exhaust system that determines the noise level & note.

An big V6 or V8 engine without a silencer (muffler) sounds like a dragster!!

The more restricted the flow, the lower the noise level...and the more stunted the performance.

A little MR2 with a straight through exhaust will be 'effin' loud - louder than a TVR Griffen in an original setup.

One that you can buy for a reasonable sum of money and is readily available?- a 5 litre TVR Griffith could do the trick, in fact most TVR's are pretty, as our american cousins say, awesome.
