If you found the GARTER snake next to water, he will probably prefer frogs, and might be willing to eat goldfish, if you found him in a field he may eat pinkies and earthworms. They get used to a certain diet and prefer to stick to it, consider what he would normally hunt for and give it a try. They can go for weeks without eating so be prepared for that.

It's Garter not gardener. There is no snake called a gardener. There are a lot of different species of garter snake and they have different diets. If you caught the snake in the wild your best bet would be to release it. If you insist on keeping it you can check out this care sheet. You have to follow them exactly. They need very specific care and will not survive if anything is wrong.

Well all garter snakes found in north america eat freshwater hangouts mostly frogs and fish. You can purchase minnows or even goldfish to feed him for cheap at your local pet store or you can catch them yourself with a net. I would try www.kingsnake.com that is a very detailed site about reptile care. I would also suggest that you release it if it is a wild snake you may stress it out to much by keeoing it in captivity. that will cause it not to eat.

GARTER SNAKES EAT BUGS AND SMALL RODENTS. ANYTHING NO BIGGER THAN THE BIGGEST PART OF ITS BODY. START OFF WITH CRICKETS FIRST THEN MOVE UP IN SIZE. YOU CAN GO TO YOUR LOCAL PETCO OR PETLAND TO PURCHASE SUCH FEEDERS. DO NOT GET ANYTHING FROM OUTSIDE BECAUSE IT COULDVE BEEN POISONED.
