If you are taking the kids, you can go to the Museum of Science and Industry, or, you can go to the Museum Campus and make a day out of going to the Field Museum http://www.fieldmuseum.org/ they have the Tutenkamen exhibit right now., the Adler Planetarium http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/ and the Shedd Aquarium www.sheddaquarium.org/ which there is a brand new baby Baluga whale that was just born yesterday I think. Then, take a walk down to the beach or go visit Navy Pier- to on the Giant Ferris wheel...
Another little known place is the Museum of Holography-- small place, 2 or 3 rooms, but standing there and playing with the Holograms (moving back & forth and side to side) could take hours... http://holographiccenter.com/
You can also contact a chicago greeter who will give you a walking tour and help visitors out for free www.chicagogreeter.com

Go to the Art Institute, Navy Pier, the Field Museum, the State Street Marshall Field's, or the Sears Tower. Catch a show at Second City. Take a boat tour on the river and canal near downtown. Stroll down N. Michigan Ave.
There's a ton of things to do; have fun!

There are lots of fun things to do in Chicago. For dining, I recommend Gulliver's Restaurant... they have great deep dish, Chicago style pizza. Take a boat ride out on the lake - it's beautiful out there! Also, try visiting some museums - they're very interesting. My favorite is the Museum of Science and Industry. It all depends on what you like to do, but hopefully these suggestions will help you find a starting point. Have fun! :)

Art Institute
On a clear day, have a drink at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock. This is way better than the Sears Tower oberservation deck.
For true deep dish (even though my cousin worked at Gulliver's), have pizza at Lou Malnati's or Uno or Due. For stuffed pizza, hit Bacino's.
Go to Shake, Rattle & Read or Green Mill and have one of the proprietors tell you all about Al Capone.
Watch a movie in Grant Park on a Tuesday night
Dirty up the bean (aka Cloudgate) in Millenium Park
If you're here on the last Friday of the month, borrow a bicycle and do Critical Mass. Daley Plaza 5:30pm.
And I second the recommendation for the river architectural tour.
Finally, http://beta.chi.flavorpill.net/ is always a terrific source for solid modern culture.
Avoid: Navy Pier, American Girl, renting one of those dumb tricycles (quadcycles?) for four and riding it on the bike path.

You can visit the Shedd Aquarium, Six Flags, and many different clubs and lounges. If you are 21 you are sure to have fun. Also you can visit Michigan Ave and Woodfield Mall. Dave and Busters is a fun place to hang out. Make sure you get some Pizza from Home Run Inn, UNO's, or Giordanos. Don't forget Navy Pier.

If you like museums, libraries, art galleries, etc--there is plenty to do! Look on-line: www.chicagoplaces.com and you will find a variety of activities. You can go sight seeing--you can go downtown, beaches, etc. There is so much to do but you need to figure out what you want to do! You could take the trolley to Navy Pier! There is so much to do that even though I am close to Chicago I have not been able to enjoy all of the possibilities!

There are tons of things to do and a ton of cool restaurants/bars. I will attach a link where it list everythonh you could want to know and even reviews it. If its a nice day my favorite outside bar/restaurant is a place called Matisse on diversy and orchard on the north side. They have great, reasonably priced food and its fun to sit outside.
