Don't worry about it so much -- the transition's not as big as you've been led to believe.
I woke up the first day of high school with this odd eerie calm, having been nervous all summer. The trick is just to remember you're not the only one going through it, so is every other kid your age, not to mention all your friends.
In terms of difficulty, it's also not that much of a leap. End-of-semester (December and June, for me), are pretty arduous, but otherwise it's almost the same as elementary school. You'll notice it passes by much faster.
You'll be fine, don't worry.
Unfortunately, I haven't read that book, but I assume Spark Notes has...

I was right.

I was scared too when I started (about 15 years ago!!). My advice would be to treat everyone the same, talk to as many people as you can, and get involved in extracurricular activities to meet more people. Be known as "the girl that was nice to everybody". Just be careful about choosing the friends you spend all your time with after school! They can make or break you.

I am going to high school next year and we have two books to read. I love to read but boring things don't attract my attention. But you can go to cliffnotes.com to get notes on the book.(They really helped me through Romeo And Juliet.) you can view the free notes and copy and paste them to Microsoft word and print them off(i refuse to pay for notes if i can get it free) and on high School. You'll be ok. You have to have a great personality to be a cheerleader. That stands out infront of the rest. ever need to talk about problems send me a email through yahoo answers

About the book--just ask lots of questions in class. As for other advice, it would help us a lot if you asked more specific questions. For example, what are you scared about?

HS isn't that bad. just stick with your studies cuz people get caught up in peer pressures, but in the end, it's you against the rest of the world.
