I know everyone is tired of reading about this incident, but I just read yet another newspaper article that FIFA may still strip him of the award. If that was to happen, who was the runner-up? Or would the award just not be given out this time?

Zidane may be a good player but he wasn't the best player AT THE WORLD CUP. He didn't consistently play well...actually some feared that France wasn't even gonna make it to round 2 and there were disappointing comments made towards Zidane. How he ended up with the award still baffles me. Cannavaro was the player that deserved that award more than anyone else.

I doubt Zizou will be stripped of his award, but if he is....it should go to his funner up, Fabio Cannavaro.

Unfortunately Zidane will keep the award, but I don't think he was the best player in this World Cup either. I also feel Cannavaro was much more consistent so I feel he deserves the award instead. I too believe the media unfairly built Zidane up so much that no else had a chance for the award no matter how good and consistent they were. It's a shame.

No, no, no I think everything is messed up enough. Imagine the precedent this would set. Besides, if they decided they were going to start going back on decisions previously made, they might have to replay the Italy vs. France final, because of the rule infraction. The fifth official used the tv to give Zidane the red card which was illegal.

I think the whole thing would create a mess. Italy keeps the world cup, and Zidane keeps his award. I think thats the easiest thing for everyone.

No way . He earned it . What a solid participant Zidane is !!!! i think of the Italians could provide back the worldwide cup to France . The Italians do no longer deserve the worldwide cup and don't deserve the golden ball . i'm very upset in that Italian bull......

it doesn't matter if they strip him of the award. zidane has nothing left to prove. for me he will always be the maestro and i don't care what other people say or do. he's proven himself over the years and this golden ball is just icing on the cake.

fifa should give the golden ball to cannavaro as the italian has been outstanding since day 1 of the WC.

zizou got the g.ball cos he's retiring, that's all!

I hope he loses it. Fabio Cannavaro deserved it in the first place.

If it is taken away and Cannavaro is bumped up to 1st who would get bronze or would they just not give out a bronze? If they do give it out Buffon should at least get that.

I doubt they will do that, but even then, it doesn't matter he has been the best player of this worldcup, and the greatest player over the last ten years
