Using Progesterone cream (it's available over the counter) from day 14 of your cycle til the first day of bleeding will prevent the cramps altogether. It also cuts out the PMS.
You can also work on strengthening your back muscles throughout the month. The better your posture, the less the cramps hit.
And drink your full 8 glasses of water a day to flush things out. A little Aleve or Tylenol is also good if you start taking it as directed from the time your cramps first hit.

Tiger Balm is very good, rub it on your belly and your back, but wash your hands thoroughly after using it, you don't want to get it in your eyes or anywhere else for that matter. Try your local supermarket, if you can't find it there then try Asian grocery stores.
Don't use a hot water bottle, as the heat can clot the menstrual blood and make it more painful to "pass"... the cervix has a very small opening!

Ibuprofen, and if you take it with caffiene, like Coke or something, it works much better. Laying down with a heating pad on that general area helps too.
