I wish people who don't know what they are talking about would refrain from making stupid stabs at answers!
Of course The Countess of Wessex is The Princess Edward just as Diana was officially The Princess Charles and Fergie was The Princess Andrew.
It is considered very old fashioned now, though the most well known example is Prince Michael's wife, properly known as The Princess Michael. It is the same protocol that a woman would take her husbands name in marriage e.g. Flora Smith marrying Henry Brown would be known as Mrs Henry Brown. If she survived her husband then she would be known as Mrs Flora Brown. Sadly these customs are fading (probably like marriage) - hope that answers your question.

No. H.R.H. Prince Edward, the youngest of the Queen's four children, was given the title "Earl of Wessex" before he got married. His wife is therefore the Countess of Wessex, but NOT the Princess Edward. This kind of styling was customary during the 19th and early 20th century, but is no longer in common use.

And Camilla, the second wife of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, is officially styled "Duchess of Cornwall", as Prince Charles is also the Duke of Cornwall (and receives his private income - currently approx. £ 8 million per year - from the Duchy of Cornwall).
