You can start with either, but I believe if you learn on an acoustic you will be a better player. The neck of the acoustic is slightly wider and the action on the strings is usually higher (you have to push down harder). But the acoustic is quieter, portable, and has a better sound quality in my opinion. Good luck. Learning takes practice, dedication, determination, patience, and more practice.

Actually an electric guitar is a lot easier on the fingers as the strings are closer to the neck. As far as size goes, they're pretty much the same size. Have fun, I've been playing since 1967 and still enjoy it.

Depends on what you want. When I was learning, I had an accoustic first and it helped out a lot. I also had a large based guitar, a full body and now I have an electric fender strat. It all depends on what you want!

The best way to learn to play is to do just that.. PLAY. Toy with it until you get it down. Play your favorite songs.. It's easy! Good luck!

but you have to get your guitar tuned first. though in order for i to sound right... i am not sure if you have to start out with an acoustic. my parents are making me do it(on th acoustic).. i kind of hate the acoustic though because i think the electric sounds better. hopefully i'll get one for christmas... well i am not sure about the size

I skipped to electric, and it took a while, but I'm pretty good. The people at the music shop will help you get the right size. By the way, congrats for picking such an awesome instrument to start! Welcome to the club!

You don't have to, it would be easier and cheaper though. Any good music store where they sell guitars should be able to help you get the right size.

you can start on an electric. size wise, it depends on how big you are. if you are a kid there are scaled down versions, but you will eventually want a "normal" sized guitar.
Take lessons! they not only teach you the basics, but it makes you play. if you don't play and practice, you'll lose interest fast.

I would start with a classical accustic, easy on the fingers and the strings are a bit more apart.
