Dilation and curettage. A minor operation in which the cervix is expanded enough (dilation) to permit the cervical canal and uterine lining to be scraped with a spoon-shaped instrument called a curette (curettage). Also called D&C not DNC. This is done when there has been a miscarriage. Like the answers above this is the correct one. A D&C is not an abortion. You can also have a D&C if you have pollups or turmors near your cervix.

Dilatation and Curettage (D & C) is a gynaecological operation where the woman is given an anaesthetic (to knock her out) and then the OBGYN will dilate her womb (specifically the cervix or neck of her womb) and do a curettage (ie. scoop out the contents).

The previous techniques used a blunt scoop to do this, but some OBGYNs will use a suction tool now.

It is sometimes used as a form of abortion (also called a D&E or dilatation and evacuation), but can also be a useful procedure if there is excessive menstrual bleeding.

It is a D&C meaning dilation and currettage. They dilate the cervix and scrape the uterus from growths and such as that. The person who said this is an abortion is right and wrong. They do basically the same thing in an abortion but it is then a D&E. I hope this answered your question.

Dilation & Currettage (d & c) ... the lining of the uterus is scraped to move tissue. It is done to find out the reason for abnormal periods, to end a pregnancy, or to treat an incomplete miscarriage or abortion.

When the inside of the uterus is scraped, not necessarily an abortion. Could be a miscarraige, or in the case of my mother, acquiring tissue to test for cancer.

A DNC is when you have miscarried and continuously bleed, with blood clots, but are not able to pass the sack and you go in to have it surgically removed.
I had one about 3 years ago, they put you to sleep and next thing you know you are done... it is not painful, but a bit uncomfortable.
