I still think that 2000 is the most stable platform. It is totally written on the old NT platform. I really like it a lot, even though I've finally moved on to XP.
It really depends on you. If you want to do quite a few different things, you dont want to worry about device drivers that you may not have for your computer's hardware, and you want to be 'up to date' (even though I think that term is ludicrous because of how technology is advancing) than buy Xp. Xp pro is pretty stable.
If you are pretty tech savvy, you have the drivers for your computer or are able to find them online, you dont need the bells and whistles that xp has, and you keep your computer on for months ( I've left my computer on for a year with 2000, no power save), buy 2000.

I agree with the others. Windows XP if far better to get than 2000. You just need to make sure your computer can handle that. If it's an older computer. (which it probably is since you have 98 on it) some of them can't handle the amount of info XP brings to the table. You might just be better off buying a new computer but if it's got sufficient memory and a good processor (pentium 4 is good) then you will be fine.

i use windows 2000 on all my machine but some games have trouble installing, since i dont like all the graphical features of xp.
plus i have my computers all networked which is easy to setup on windows 2000 rather than xp
i would advise u try out both before getting 1 or other.
hope this helps

Windows XP Home, but make sure your system has enough memory, hard disk space, and processor power to run it. If not, the performance will be miserable.
It you have an holder system that doesn't support XP, a low-end Celeron or any AMD based system will run XP just fine.

If you have patience and deep pockets wait for Vista. Otherwise go with XP, 2000 is told to be better, but some applications don't like it as much and some versions are less versatile.
Go to Microsoft's website to get the system checker to see if your old computer supports XP.

if you have your ram as 512 and hdd space as greater than 15 gb or a processor p4 , go for xp.
Anything lesser, i suggest stick with 98 or go for win 2000.
Can you manage till next year mid with the same m/c,
then you can go for a new pc + windows vista
(win vista needs a new pc - if you want to upgrade again next year )

Hard to say without knowing what kind of hardware you have. You may not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP. Revise your question and provide us with your CPU, RAM and Hard disk size.

It depends on the amount of memory, hard disk space and speed of your processor on your computer. Xp is the best choice, but needs a certain amount of space and speed to run properly as does Win2000. Check first before you make a move or you will run into problems. Puta
