Go with Mac. The new Mac with Intel chip and have both operating systems installed on same computer so you can have the best of both worlds.

Weigh cost - speed - looks.

The MAC is technically a better system, but with less software available native, the PC has a wider software and user base, and most sofware is available on this platform. PC software will run on a MAC but usually with loss of speed. Lots of Mac software is available for the PC, but (not tested) I understand the MAC versions are better/faster.

It really depends on what you want/need. If you need your computer for a purpose and the software is available on a MAC (original, not a port) go with the MAC; it'll run the software better and in some cases faster while still allowing you to dabble on the PC side.

If you would like a machine for all-round use (including newer games) and mostly PC applications, the PC may be a better choice.

Definitely decide what your needs are. If you want gaming, stay away from Macs. They get a few good games now and then, but many many months after the PC versions, and sometimes years after the console versions.
For general Internet/word processing, either will work fine-find the best deal (PCs are cheap...mac Mini is cheap too).
If you want a machine to do video editing, the mac is awesome out of the box with no extra hardware or software necessary. If you want, you can upgrade to a monster program like Final Cut Pro, but most people don't need that. iMovie will work great for them.
Photo editing-photoshop works well on both platforms...
Music? Garageband is really fun (mac), but for editing, there are good programs for both: Deck, Peak, Logic for Mac, Acid for PC.

It is following your need.
The power is not about the hardware but about the operting system too.
For example, if you want an operating system that permet you to have full control over your hardware capacity for programming or testing purpose, a PC is better. But if you are a normal user and your tasks doesn't exceed word processing, internet browsing then a MAC is better for you.
Mac is also better in infography (images manipulating...)
PC is better in advanced programming and software engeenering.
