My van needs this done as part of it's 95k check. What is it, how long should it take and, most importantly, how much should it cost?

It is just to make sure the bolts are tight. It should take about an hour. Depending on the shop rate $50-70.

The first answer was right.
The mechanic is to use a 'torque wrench and check that the bolts are tight to a certain torque value. (basically are they still tight as when installed originally.)
IF.. That is all they are doing , that would be a 5 minute job after they got the car in up on the rack and started. But that usually is done with all the other service items at 95,000 miles.
The whole 95K service should not be more than $110.

This consists of re-tightening the bolts at both ends of your drive shaft. They need to be tightened with a torque wrench which measures the force that they are tightened with. In most cars (I don't know about yours), there are only 8 of them and it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. You'll probably pay $65 for the labor. There shouldn't be a cost for parts.

if you have tools (sockets, metric), you can DIY. where the drivshaft bolts onto the trannie, and also the rear differential (pumpkin) on your axle houseing,,there are two bolts at either end holding the shaft in it's place. give these a good tightening. 10 mins tops, and free. :)

The formula is a million.40 8 x the kind of unsleeping ones you are able to slot in and, extraordinarily, a million.24 situations the kind of useless ones. The useless ones genuinely would have rigor mortis so that you'll get extra subconscious than useless. Math, huh?

retighten these bolts to proper specs.shuoldn't be big deal, don't believed there is even a cover on them. probably visable if you crawl underneath the car. 1/2 hour labor or shop minimum.
