Yesterday, the House of Representatives AND Congress passed the Stem Cell Research bill allowing for the research of cures of COUNTLESS diseases and ailments that mankind. Some that could be cured forever.
Before you answer, think about this. With the passing of this bill we could save many upon many lives and cure future diseases forever. Some in which people that have it are tortured for good. We could have Mohammad Ali or Michael J. Fox walking and talking normally by the end of their lives. We could save the lives of the next Stephen Hawking or the next John F. Kennedy. This could be an amazing feat!
On the lateral side, we could also kill of the next Albert Einstein or the most brilliant, wonderful person to ever live by killing of the embreyo that they would have become. In this, we could have a loss that would have changed many aspects of the world.
What do you think about this bill that was passed?

I am not going indepth with science here guy... I work full days and am up at 4 AM, I don't have the time nor the will to read a whole science book about Stem cell Research. What I wanted by this is to find out a little more about this situation. I hoped by this question that maybe more people would see it and give there opinions on it.
George Bush let his religious beliefs get in the way of saving many people that could lead an amazing life but were cheated by a disease that honestly wasn't fair... but hey, life isn't fair I guess. It is what it is right?

those embryos will never come to fruition, as they are eventually destroyed through lack of use. If you want to make it mandatory for every fertilized egg that a couple freezes be implanted and carried to term, then maybe we could use that reasoning. But that isn't reality. Reality is that those embryos are destroyed. And anyone who brings god into the equation should really think about the fact that if it was god's will, we wouldn't have fertility clinics. Those are man'made, not 'miracles of god'.
Also, to clear up the misinformation I keep reading, embryonic stem cells have regenerative powers that adult stem cells don't. That is why brain disease and spinal disease are permanent. Adults spinal and brain cells cannot regenerate. Embryonic cells have been attached to the severed spines of mice, and have regenerated, building a bridge to the two severed ends, and restoring function in these mice. Just so everyone is clear on that.

I think it's a good thing that congress passed this bill, and I think it's even better that it was done with a large majority. This means that people are starting to realize that stem cell research is ethical and required to cure modern diseases. However, it doesn't really matter if the bill ends up becoming law or not. All the bill does is allow for FEDERAL funding of stem cell research. That doesn't mean that stem cell research will cease altogether if the bill is not passed. It just means that tax dollars will not be put into furthering the research. Even if Bush vetoes the bill, which will only show him up for the despot he is, the research will still go on with private funding. In any case, a lot of research involving medicine is privately funded now anyway. It's so expensive, it cannot be the sole purview of the government alone.

I am so for this stem cell research bill. Just watching Michael J. Fow this morning on GMA not being able to sit still in his seat because of parkinsons makes me want to support it.
Saving an actual living person is more important to me because although, like you mentioned, there is a chance of gettng rid of the next Einstein, these embryos are less than 2 weeks old. 90% of the time an embryo doesn't even make it past 2 weeks.

Better study your science. Stem cells can cure some diseases but the one they need are adult not embrio. They will never and can never cure anything. This has been proven. In the 30 years the they have studied them they were not able to cure even pimples let alone big diseases. However we have cured several diseases with adult stem cells and we dont even need a bill to do that since it kills no one to harvest the cells. I am glad that the bill was vetoed and I hope it continues to fail.

ok right here is going...Embryonic stem cells are the comparable element as stem cells taken from cord blood, or perhaps stem cells on your physique. A stem cellular is only a cellular that has no longer long previous with the aid of differentiation yet. That only potential that it is not sure what form of cellular that it is going to likely be whilst it matures. like the cellular does not understand if it is going to likely be a blood cellular or a liver cellular, etc. So, what's the version in getting stem cells from an embryo you could need to kill or getting them from cord blood? cord blood is drawn from each infant born interior the u . s . a . to attempt for affliction, why no longer combat to have what blood is left over after attempting out to be sent to study labs and not kill those embryos. GWB, and all of his faults, isn't against stem cellular study yet is against EMBRYONIC stem cellular study.

I do not know too much about stem cells, whether or not adult or embryo are better or worse or whatever...but I do agree that if this embryo is going to be aborted anyway, might as well use it to save a life like Michael J. Fox, or Mohammad Ali. they deserve to feel as they did when they were in their prime. I agree with the passing of this bill. it's a good thing.

I think we should do everything we can to explore stem cell research. I have MS. This could help many people with MS and MANY other issues. These embreyos would be destroyed anyway. Put them to good use.

Stem cells are cool.
besides, embryos aren't even humans yet. They are just potential humans that will be destroyed eventually by the woman's womb during her period anyway.
