It could be how you are sleeping. Do you sleep on your side?
I do and my chest and my shoulder take turns hurting.

When you lay down, the acids from your stomach can more easily escape into the esophagus causing pain. Sometimes the pain of esophageal reflux can be so bad that it mimics the pain of heart attack. Sometimes it wraps around the chest making breathing difficult. Sometimes it will go up into the throat or into the shoulder.

Try a dietary approach. Eliminate all caffeine, sodas, spicy foods and alcohol for a week. Don't eat large meals in the evening. See if your symptoms vanish.

If it feels like your breastbone is fusing together and you find it hard to breathe, I've been there. My chiropractor told me that it's because certain muscles in back are not used enough (sounds kind of stupid, huh?). I thought he was a little nuts at first, but he gave me some exercises to do to help it, and they did! Now anytime it happens to me, I do the exercises for a week or so, and it goes away. I'll try to explain what I had to do....it's simple to do, but hard to explain. You extend your arms upward behind you, then flex your back. You keep your back flexed, and put your arms down. You do that 10 or so times every night, and it should stop. I could have misinterpreted your question, but I hope it helps.

iS IT on the left side of your chest? I get them too. I have a prolapsed mitrovalve. GO to a cardiologist and get an Echo done, he may also make you do an ekg and wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. Goodluck!

Me too! And they never found anything with me. It is always when I am at rest. I do take a medicine for a rapid heart beat and it seems to help. You might ask about that. Either Topril (spelling?) or another like it.

Not a medic, but my guess is it's a gas trouble. My mom has similar problem, the doctor suggested that she should take a walk after every meal for atleast 15 min's. It's helped her, so hope it help's you too.

Well let me take a look at your breast and I can see what is the problem ...

No seriously, it is probably a minor heart attack

It could be just gas....sometimes it places pressure on the chest. Otherwise you might have a mild cold... did they ever do chest x-rays on you?
