I own 2 body piercing studios and i would like to share my 2 cents worth.Well, I think it all depends on what type of piercing and to whom you ask.An ear piercing would be nice body art if you ask the people who likes them but a pierced nipple would be body mutilation to the same person. Someone who likes a pierced eyebrow might call it body art while someone who likes a pierced prince albert might hate it.So it shouldnt be who considers piercing art and who doesnt.Life should not be all rules and be put into catagories.Art is as the artis. So feel free to express yourself,if you like it then make it body art.If you hate it then call it body mutilation.Art is as the artis.Art is as the artist. The artist holds the right to call anything art.Cheers!

Some consider it so, and others do not.

The term "Art" has many meanings. What does art mean to you?

One definition I think of when speaking of "art" is, what does it communicate to the viewer/listener.

So, do you consider it beautiful? Are you trying to shock people? What response does the piercing bring about in others? In yourself?

Artists of all kinds have had very different ideas about what exactly Art "is" and what it's purpose is: Composer, J.S. Bach felt that art was "The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.", while Writer Oliver Wilde "All art is quite useless".

So, there's no quick answer to this one, but a lot of things to think about. It's a fantastic question though, and I thank you for bringing it up.

Good luck.

No. It's body mutilation for the purpose of decorating. People do not make themselves works of art with earrings, nose rings or nipple rings. People do not make themselves art by having permanent drawings affixed to their flesh. They simply fool themselves into believing that the decorations they now have due to body mutilation are art. They are decorations to the body and no more.

Absolutely. Piercing, tattoo's, and scarification are all forms of body art. I'll pass on the scarification, but I love ink!

i do not consider peircing art, art is to aestheticl pleasing , if you like beig stuck through with a pin then it is only pleasing to you, the person who peirces calls it an art , but so getting sloppy **** of grass before you mow it, dont be fooled into thinking all comercial ventures are 'art' they and it is most definitley not art, it maybe called a artform similiar to tattooist drawing, by those trying to sell it.
