My mouse just died and I can't figure out why....

I don't think he was that old... at least, I got him rather recently from the store, but granted, they didn't tell me how old he was.
As for the incense thing, well I burn incense all the time, and I refuse to believe it's as toxic as nicotene smoke... In any case, my boyfriend had a look, and he said it looked like he was dehydrated... We think there might have been something wrong with the water bottle, it wasn't dripping... But thanks anyway....

Yes it is, but there are many reasons a mouse can suddenly die. Don't beat yourself up about, because you didn't know, and it could happen to anyone! Lots of people smoke, too, but we know it hurts us and creatures around us. Just try to learn from your mistakes! Mice can even die from the pine and cedar bedding that is commonly sold for them. The oils actually have toxic phenols that can ruin their respiratory system and liver! Think about all the people that use them...

I'd say a faulty water bottle is more likely than the incense. While small animals are sensitive to things like that (you may want to only burn incense *sometimes* if you get another small critter in that particular room), they are also very sensitive to lack of nutrition and water. Unlike a larger animal that can store up a bit more for leaner times, hamsters and mice really can't go long without having enough water and food. In any case, it sounds like it was just a genuine mistake--which is sad, but it happens. You didn't do anything wrong, and it's something you'll know to look out for next time.

How close to the incense was the mouse? It's true small animals can be sensitive to household cleaners, pesticides, etc. so it's possible.

How old was the mouse? They only live 2-3 years.

Incense is toxic to mice....and men. temples in india are a lot more toxic than crowded highways... so this means more cancers. As for acute toxicity, common sense tells me not to breathe it in especially if I tend to be a small creature...

how old is it?
we had a gerbil and it was one of the offspring so it was the youngest. but for some reason it died first. we think that she had some kind of stroke or something. you have to remember that usually gerbils and hamsters and mice, they don't live that long. i think the typical life span is 2 years. sad but true.
what killed your mouse? i doubt it was the incense, but i am not a vet. :) im sorry that your pet died.
