Although it sounds like a Starbucks coffee flavor, it's something else entirely! It is correctly spelled 'Mulatto' and I believe it comes from the Spanish word 'Mulo' meaning mule. As you probably already know, a mule is a mixed breed of horse and donkey, receiving mostly recessive genes. This makes it smaller, more stubborn, virtually untrainable, and mules cannot reproduce.
The term 'Mulatto' means of mixed parents/ancestry. Usually a mix of a European (Caucasian) parent and a African (black) parent. The tan skinned child of the two would be considered a 'Mulatto'.
It's important to note that this is considered a derogatory term. No one wants to be called a mule, and although you may not know it's negative connotations, you may greatly offend someone by calling them one.
Always find out the meaning of a word (like you have here) before you put it to use. Hope this helps!

the word is one that no person should be concerned about. It's a "label" that only seperates one human from another. We need to stop seperating life intno catergories and just be humans.
