Because there is a market for the product - if no one wanted 612hp then they wouldn't produce them

bhp= body horse power, and the bugatti veyron can go 250+ mph, but under some regulations, one of them is you can not turn the wheel more than 35 degree in any direction because the car will send a message to the computer that will limit it to only do hundred something miles per hour. If they are to bring ti to the US it will cost $1million dollars which is what the McLaren F1 cost. Also this car has a V 16 engine.

Because they can. VW made a car with 1000 bhp (brake horse power) as a technical exercise. It had 10 radiators and they had to limit the top speed to 250mph. At full pelt, the 100-litre tank emptied in 12 minutes and the whole thing cost, like £5 million to make. They called it the Bugatti Veyron. I want one!!!!

All of the above answers are correct but Mercedes-Benz has one goal in mind and that is to be ahead of the curve in luxury and performance. The gadgets you see in the s class Mercedes are what your gonna start seeing in Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus so its only natural for them to make more and more powerful cars.
