Do women have a natural maternal instinct or are some women destined not to become mothers by choice? Some of my friends and I were discussing this, those with kids thought that those who had not had any, were a little strange. What are your thoughts on this?

Nothing wrong. They know what they want or don't want. They know themselves well and that is good. Better than those who have them then regret later.

No, nothing weird. I was one of these women once. I didn't want the responsibility that came with them nor did I have a particular love of children. I thought a pet would be a much better choice.

When I hit the age of 26, I got weird to me by all of a sudden entertaining the thought of having kids. I remember saying to my partner what bits of him I'd like our baby to have and which bits of me, then wondering where that came from!

I now have 2 beautiful children and I have no regrets, in fact I wonder what kind of fool I was to want to miss out on this experience!

No, there is nothing wrong with not wanting children. I didn't want children the whole time I grew up. It wasn't until I met my husband that I felt the urge to procreate (you know, a little baby in both you and your hubby's image). But sadly when I had the baby I thought I would never bond with it. It took time, but the motherly instinct did kick in. If the child isn't wanted it might never kick in. So don't have kids because HE wants to. Have children because it is what you REALLY want and you are ready.

No, they aren't weird. Even in nature, not every female ends up reproducing. Some don't because they are unable, some don't just because they don't have the temperament. Some don't because they had a bad childhood and they feel incapable of providing what they think a mother should. Regardless of the reason it is a personal choice and no one should be judged for that choice.

I don't think they are weird. I know a few who have said they were never going to have children. I also know some who have said it, then had kids anyway because they changed their minds.

As a guy, I can only give you advice from a guy's point of view.

Women who have children quickly and early usually have a strong desire to have kids. And, like any other feeling people hold strongly, it can be unfathomable that others migh not feel the same.

I ma 34 I have never wanted children. I have no maternal bone in my body. In fact I would go as far as to say I don't even like kids that much. I am happy for my friend when they have them but I don't coo over them and when I am out having an adult time - in a pub or a restaurant for instance I actively dislike them if they are making a noise or running about - take them to the playground!

I get a lot of stick for it but there it is, I've said it. I'm glad parents love their little darlings but I don't.

Some people just aren't made to become parents. I know of several people that are so selfish, they would not care for a child the way it would need.
I do not think it is strange at all. It's a personal choice.

i agree with you i automatically think its a little weird when a woman states she doesn't want children. (Better for the children i guess especially if she's so self-absorbed) God knows who should and shouldn't have children. Its the mothers that have that maternal instinct, have kids, but make stupid choices on how they treat and take care of them that shouldn't. But I guess were not to judge. I just consider it a blessing that God has allowed us to give birth to such wonderful blessings we shouldn't screw it up or deny that gift. those women are really missing out.

I don't think it's weird. I'm not sure if I want children. I am fine with my friends kiddos and get a little maternal while with them but I really don't think I want to have any myself. Maybe someday I'll change my mind. If it happens, it happens.

No, there is nothing wrong with women who don't want to become mothers. I would rather they realized this before they became mothers, then regretted their decisions or caused troubled lives for their children. Different strokes for different folks...
