#1: Stay away from the Major Record Labels. The indies are much better to work for.

#2: Always understand what you are signing. Whether it's a recording contract or just a "Deal Memo" (also known as a 'Letter of Intent.')

If you're really interested in making money in music, read the stories at the links. If you are really good, just get out there and do it. It may take a little longer going indie, but the returns will be better.

I wish you luck, I've been there. I love what I'm doing. If I had it all to do again, knowing what I know now, I would do things a little different.
