Studies say they do, but I think us wives keep them healthy and living longer because we know that if they die no one else would put up with our nagging bit*ching selves and we live longer than men do so we have to keep ours around as long as we can!

Studies have shown that married men do indeed live longer. Alas, the same is not true for married women! A study done in Australia in 2005 that tracked 3000 elderly men and women starting in 1988 found that married men lived on average 11 months longer than their single counterparts. Marital status for women, however, made no significant difference to life span.

Scientists are still speculating as to why, but some potential reasons might include:

-- Women tend to eat better and exercise more than men to begin with, and often encourage their husbands to take better care of themselves. Women also encourage their husbands to get more regular medical care.

-- In terms of careers (which may be linked to happiness, stress, etc.), the most successful men are typically married, whereas the most successful WOMEN are typically single.

-- Marriage is instant social support and company, which can do a lot for your mental status and stress.

There are lots and lots of other theories out there, but research definitely seems to suggest that getting hitched is good for you!

_ Marriage prolongs life. In a study published earlier this year, Waite and another researcher found that for both men and women, marriage lengthens the life span. This benefit increases with the duration of the union. Married men live, on average, 10 years longer than nonmarried men, and married women live about four years longer than nonmarried women. Married men live longer because they adopt less risky, more healthy lifestyles as a result of the commitment brought on by marriage, and married women live longer due to improved financial well-being as a result of marriage.

Married men most likely do live longer simply because of the fact that now they have a woman to make them eat right and not do the dumb things that they do if single, ie drinking all night and partying all the time, not to mention all the fast food they consume when single. Plus they are more aware of how they look naked because their spouse sees them so they tend to be in better shape. So I would say yes married men do live longer.

Yes, married men do live longer... my theory is that it's because they have someone to tell them not to get the toast out of the toaster with a knife while it is still plugged into the electrical socket.

I read an article in a magazine, can't remember the magazine though, but according to this article married men, happily married men that is, do live longer, due to the fact that they take better care of themselves, probably mostly due to the insistence of their wives, but they tend to eat better, have lower levels of stress and when sick or in the hospital they tend to recover quicker.. Imagine that! we aren't the death or men afterall..

I guess logically it's possible. Married men would probably be less likely to take risks because they have more people to think about other than themselves. Like a wife.

I know i took far more risks with my life when I was single than I have since I've been married.

They do live longer. I read somewhere that this tends to be true because married men tend to be more financially and emotionally stable.
