So, just what was the Kennedy connection to WWII? Did he prolong the existance of concenteration camps through diplomatic influence? Did he really ADMIRE Hitler?

I would, however, argue, that many, many people in powerful positions most likely were connected with Germany during this time period prior to US entry into the war. Including many families that are still powerful today. Doesn't mean that subsequent generations wouldn't have done things differently.

I think that Joe Senior had the philosophy of a handful of people then. He marveled at the technological advances germany made. Especially after WWI and their recent depresssion. Hitler did bring the country up out of the ashes at that time and Lindberg and the Duke of Windsor even admired his advancement.
I also think Joe Senior didn't really care much for the Jews and figured "So what? It's only the Jews". Although this wasn't his public opinion he did let slip once or twice in private. His comment below pretty much summed up his feelings.
I think after seeing how Germany advanced so quickly back into a industrialized nation amazed many people until the horrors and crimes of the Third Reich became more prominant. Then most people distanced themselves from it.
Joe Junior as you know was killed on a secret mission over occupied territory. Joe Senior always blamed Roosevelt (or as he snidely referred to him as "Rosenfeld") for Joe Junior's death.

Joseph Kennedy was Catholic Irish, and from your Celtic name you should know the answer to this. Joseph Kennedy wanted England to be kicked to the curb. I don't think Kennedy was as pro-German as he was anti-English, I know he had connections to some of the players during Prohibition, and he made money from illegal alcohol sales. Let's face it he was a shady character. But the karma he wreaked on his family I think is just awful. I recently was in Wales and took a tour of a castle there and the guide said that John F. Kennedy's middle name, Fitzgerald made him a descendant of the Earl of Shrewsbury that lived in the castle.

Joseph Kennedy believed the UK would lose against Germany, regardless of US logisitc help and told Roosevelt that the US should not enter the war. He was not a Nazi, but he was never pro-British either. His son Joseph Junior later died fighting the Nazis.
