I need an HTML or CSS code that changes pictures to black and white.

I KNOW such a code exists because I've used it before. It doesn't convert the FILE to black and white. It just makes the picture APPEAR black and white on webpages.

Unlikely this! Even if it did exist, it would be less than efficient as you would still be downloading the full color photo just to change it to black and white on the browser client machine.

HTML is not able to do that. Just use a graphic program to convert the pictures and then post the B&W pictures to the website. You can use the Paint program included in Windows to do the conversion.

Use a software like Macromedia Fireworks 8 to convert the picture to "Grayscale". Just download and install the software and you will know what do when you run the software. You can also decrease the saturation to make the picture black and white.

Such code does not exist because HTML is not capable of this.

You can download irfanview and use it to convert your photo to black and white, than use the B&W photo in your html.

I don't think so. You need an image software to do this trick. There are free software out there that can do this task plus more other effects as well. Check Cnet.com
