I think they're nice, honest, hard working people. Stereotypically they are seen as being dull but they make nice waffles which balances that out!

A people who've figured out, and well before we did, how to live in harmony with neighbors different from yourself.
Did you know that there are two very different cultures in Belgium? The Flemish and the Walloons? That their languages, their histories, even their faiths are different?
Yet they don't go about rioting or terrorizing. They live together in peace. Quite a good example for the rest of us, doncha think?
Pity the Sunnis and Shia can't do THAT! On the other hand, if we just walked away and let them have at each other, pretty soon we could offer the Palestinians a nice, shiny, new, oil-rich homeland and then they'd leave the Jews alone. One can always hope.

Honestly, I have never met any Belgians, not even in college. I have heard that they are similar in personality to the Swiss. About the only exposure I have to a famous Belgian is the fictional character of Hercule Poirot, created by Agatha Christie.

I went there for a fortnights holiday 2 weeks after the Heysel stadium disaster, we were advised not to put a GB sticker on the car, but they could not have been nicer people, I think the trouble nowadays is that everyone gets tarred with the same brush by the media and it always sticks.
Fantastic chocolate, ice cream, clean streets, no binge drinking, good casino in Ostend.
Good transport system and underground car parks in Bruges anyway. I will go back one day.
