i used to be EXACTLY in your position about 5 months ago. I found it best to play without a pick (for some reason, I don't know haha) but you start off by learning chords. Then I tried to read music, although this was much harder because I moved on to bass (but that's a different story) But what is almost vital is to have a friend who you try to "compete against" For example: you could arrange a jam session every week, then each week you'll be trying to get better and better to prove to him that you're really good. so, basically: 1) chords 2) start to read music (its also worth using tabs to help too) and then learn to use barre (bar) chords for easy chord changes and progressions 3) learn advanced chords (7ths/sus4ths - you get the picture) About 2 months in you'll be away and practising a lot 'cos its so fun! 4) learn scales (but I use the term 'scales' lightly, basically get to grips with each key like you have on the piano) PS If you're having trouble finding a chord on the internet, take the notes of the piano chord, understand that the strings are (lowest-highest) EADGBE and change those notes around by adding fingers to a string to get it. PPS you might not understand what I mean by the PS atm but you will eventually. Keep at it!

Why waste your time and talent on such a boring musician. Learn some Bob Dylan tabs.
