Hippies began as a result of protesting the war or civil action in Vietnaam. Where did they go? Theres very few "rainbow people" who protest the war today. Do modern day hippies care about the war or use it as an excuse not to take a bath? Where have all the real hippies gone?

I remember in early 70's I was a small smiling little girl who always had a peace sign, flowers in my hair and sang Janice Joplin songs, some things never change...
Now my little girl is a small smiling flower in hair peace sign flashing singing Green Day...she says peace means all the daddies coming home safe...

Colorado! Seriously, though, you're right. I see very few people out there protesting the war (mostly older people...old hippies?), but nothing on the scale of Vietnam. Not sure why that is. Are we more complacent than we used to be? Do we feel there's nothing we can do to make a difference? The times have changed since the 60s, it's sad.

We're still here. The net allows us a whole new way to protest. And we grew up, at least most of us did. Don't have time to go to a protest, we have families & lives now. Back then all we had was time...now time is shorter...we pick our battles instead of just fighting everyone in authority.

Most of us got jobs, etc and went back to the real world. Being a 'hippie' was not the walk in the park a lot of you youngsters think it was.

they can't live in our modern society like they used to. there are people that protest the war, and i guess you could call them hippies if you really wanted to, but they don't get the media attention necessary to spread their cause. there are little bubbles of ppl everywhere who oppose the war, they just don't have to smoke pot to do it anymore...
