I'm from the UK - born in England have lived in Scotland for the last two years (am 37) put very simply

1. George Bush is a maniac who should be stopped at all costs- he is selfish and greedy and lies in his justification for doing the things that he does

2. Americans are generally friendly warm people

3. The American media is narrow and reports very little world news hence America despite being vast is very insular.

4. I think there may be naivety amongst a lot of Americans about how the rest of the world sees them - the impression I get is that Americans think the rest of the world wants to be American. And we don't.

I am obviously stereotyping from my own views, but this doesn't mean I don't like you guys at all! I do - well I'm sure I'd like some of you and not others - just like I do with people from my own nation!!

coming from the uk,

i have only been to america once, so i cant really say what americans in america are like, although while i was there there were no problems, but i didnt get a chance to chat with many so in one way they seemed unfriendly, but then again it was Las Vegas that I went to, so i will say that it wasnt the best city to be getting an idea of how friendly americans are.

from the americans i have met here in the uk, i have found them to be polite and friendly, good to talk to, and willing to help out whereever possible.

americans that i regularly speak to over the net from various states in america, are also friendly and willing to give advice on what i ask them (usually computer related).

this could be because americans and us brits are very close in this current age with our joining america in their war on terror, but then again we have been quite close since the end of ww2.

the only real arrogant and stupid americans that we see are on the internet (most likely kids) who act like america owns the world, or from reallity tv shows about america/americans, which if you took reallity shows about us brits i am sure there would be many similarities.

I assume you ask the question as you feel that most other nations hate your country, i feel that people who do hate america/americans dont actually hate them, they hate the perception that they have been forced fed from online chat rooms and/or tv programs, and of course the political saga that is constantly ongoing

so i wouldnt worry too much,

Americans are seen in Europe as tall and quite fat persons who have the latest technology, who drive a pick-up and who live in skyscrapers ... of course, it's a general view and we all know it's not really correct because it all depends on where you live in America.

Been to your country for a vacation and your immigration people insisted that I would not go back home to my country and plan on to stay there. And of course, she got a piece of my mind. I started with "who wants to be an american citizen anyway? you think you are God's gift to the human race...etc.etc" Next she asks me how much money I am bringing in to spend? I brought with me 3k in cash and she asked for it and counted it. Then she asks me if we still live on trees. This really got into my nerves i started berating her for being ignorant and stupid. Exasperated, i said to her face..why am i arguing with a moron. And what really surprised me was her next statement.. She said...where did you learn your english? you speak very good english. I just grabbed my money and wisked through immigration. That was your gateway !! anyway, i had loads of fun there. I met a lot of american men and women there and i enjoyed their company. you guys are fun and okay but there's nothing really great about you guys and your country that could make we want to stay there....sorry. :- (

as an American, I know we are mostly ignorant to other countries/ traditions.... we think that our culture is going to endure.... meanwhile, Europeans/Asians/Africans cultures have been around thousands of years prior to our discovery....

we have to get passed the fact that we are Industrial, not industrious... just because we make the products that make us rich and powerful doesn't mean we benefit by putting others down for not having the same ... ( i don't want to rant and rave)

America is the sloppy piece of **** blathering on and on about freedom and democracy while suppressing their own people. Only good thing about them is they waste shitloads of money.
