He was the guy that in the first one had been Jacks First Mate or whatever then mutinied and took over the black pearl and Jack had the one shot in is gun reserved for him... I think his name was like Barbosa or something like that I'm not really sure... And no I'm not incredibly obsessed with these movies I just have a lot of friends who are

First i have to say that i am so excited for the 3rd movie At Worlds End. i saw the first 2 again yesterday. and the thing with jack and elizabeth still confuses me i wasn't sure if she actually does like him or if she was pretending. i really thought that she really liked him when she kissed him on the ship until i realized that she was just locking him up on the ship. And then back at Tia Dalma's she seemed genuinely sad about Jack being captured. The whole compass thing was weird also. it was interesting that it pointed to Jack but then i just thought that maybe the treasure was under him until they found out it was really under her. i think it was all about that curiousity thing. but i wish Will told Elizabeth what he had seen becuase he feels betrayed and all. i hope Elizabeth and Jack don't get together in the 3rd movie.

That was Captain Barbossa from the first movie. He had ended the "curse" from the first movie and then Jack shot him, so he could be Captain of the Black Pearl. It turns out he wasn't as dead as we thought he was. Hope this answers your question well enough.
P.S. I loved that movie! I saw it twice! (once the day it came out, once yesterday)

the guy holding the apple is barbossa(jack's old first mate),i have two theories.no.1 jack could be dead,otherwise they wouldn't sail to the ends of the earth to davy jone's locker to free him.no.2 sice jack took out his sword and ran towards the kraken maybe he cut the kraken open and escaped?

Barbossa was the one who was 'revealed' to still be alive and willing to help the remaining crew sail 'to the ends of the world' to bring back Captain Jack.

his name is Captain Barbossa...he was the captain of the black pearl after he took it from captain jack!!!
and yes, jack survives...he's still cursed from the first movie because the monkey took a coin and thats why barbossa and the monkey arent dead!!!!! i hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!
