You might think to get her a fun craft kit, if you want to encourage creativity and if she likes that kind of thing. I know when I was 8 I loved stuff like beading kits, sewing kits, stuff like that.

Build a Bear. They're expensive, but girls have so much fun doing that.
A pretty dress, Barbie if she plays with them, art supplies. I don't know what she likes, but my girl is 8 and she loves all that stuff!

i found out leap frog first edition is very good for all children math,reading,farm animals,what ever you choice it is very good for the child especially at that age it really expand there world of learning.
