Point-slope formula:
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
(x1 , y1) is either (5,1) or (2,7), it doesn't matter which on you use.
m is the slope
Find the slope using both points given:
Slope = m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
=(7 - 1) / (2 - 5) = -6/3 = -2
Use (5 , 1) for (x1 , y1)
y - 1 = -2(x - 5)
y = -2x + 10 + 1
y= -2x + 11

Slope is defined as change in y over change in x, otherwise known as rise over run. In mathematical terms, the equation looks similar to this:
Slope = (Y2-Y1) / (X2-X1)
In your example Y2 = 7 and Y1 = 1 whereas X2 = 2 and X1 = 5.
Therefore your slope will be: (7-1)/(2-5) = 6/-3 = -2

The slope is the difference between the y-coordinates divided by the difference between the x-coordinates.
m= (y2 -y1)/ (x2 -x1)
for your points, the slope is (7 -1)/ (2 -5) = 6/-3 = -2

Slope is rise over run, so for any pair of (x, y) coordinates, the slope is
m = (y2-y1) / (x2 - x1)
So the slope of your line is (1-7)/(5-2) = -2

the slope is the change in y over the change in x (rise over run)
so if you have the two points (a,b) and (c,d), you would go (d-b)/(c-a).
in this case: (7-1)/(2-5) = 6/-3 = -2
