OK, forgetting for a moment the political and religious implications here (per my prior question). Does anyone really think it's OK to scare someone into doing what you personally think is "right" by lying to them?? (See article)

That is the most vile thing I have seen in awhile. The nerve of those people lying to poor girls who are probably scared enough as it is. I think its a persons right to choose (I know we all might have different viewpoints) but at a certain age you may not be able to afford doctors bills, vitamins, etc, let alone take proper care of yourself. I do not agree with misleading people using scare tactics and personally I do not know how these people sleep at night; you should never force your own agenda onto someone else.

In your situation it is only right if they are attempting suicide or wanting to hurt someone or in a situation to bring serious harm to theirselves, other, and especially children.
Otherwise it's imperative NOT to lie to anyone in that type of situation because it negates that person from taking personal responsiblity for themselves, their own choices and life path and is co-dependant and controlling on your part.
Outside of your situation for the most part especially about big things it's never ok to lie.
When your dealing with every day small details like the cashier asking you in the store how is you day and if it's bad and you say fine then I think that's okay.

I think in this case it's wrong to lie... but...

Over my pitiful long life, I've seen where the verbal 'truth' does total injustice, while the 'lie', in the end, actually serves the most noble purpose to a more accurate conclusion.

In fact some of the most prevalent accusers, gossips, slanderers, and cheats, -hide behind the 'truth'.

Ouch !! my head hurts

Lying to someone who is in a vulnarable position? You even need to ask?

If you are agianst abortion because you feel it is moraly wrong...don't you think lying and using scare tactics actualy put you on the wrong side of moraility as well?

If you feel strongly that abortion is moraly wrong you should be able to put that point across with out being amoral yourself. If not you are on shaky ground and maybe it's time to examine your own morals instead of hammering away on other peoples morals.

Manipulation involves deception at times. Is it alright to lie to people to make them do what you think is right? Is it really any of your business what they do? If your lie is going to bring you money or power, and you're not concerned with the moral consequences of your actions, then yes. If your lie is going to protect you from something they are planning on doing, yes.
However, if what they are planning to do has nothing to do with you, maybe you should mind your business?

In answer to your question, The "obvious" answer is NO, but depending on circumstances, it is best to lie. Everyone knows what a "white" lie is. It is best to white lie when no one can be hurt or affected by it. Lying as a whole is wrong.

it's a matter of personal opinion.

some people think that lying is 'bad' and try to avoid that,
in accordance to the saying "if a person can lie for you, they can lie to you."

others might just want to be honest and do otherwise

No....!!It is never OK to lie...You end up paying for it one way or another...
But neither should teenage girls be having sexual contact with teenage boys...
The amount of birth control options available should be making abortion a thing of the past....I guess some people truly can't think ahead at all....

No, Telling a lie in any situation (except when it comes to birthday gifts or other holiday gifts...example: Bill: What did you get me for my birthday? Holly: Nothing! when in fact she did get him something but does not want to ruin the surprise) is wrong.

The abortion counselors should be able to be sued for false informing.

No. Using your powers or persuasion is okay, but to outright lie, No. I hate being lied to so I don't lie to anyone else. Over the years I have become more diplomatic, but it took years.
