One word-- OVERKILL.
Lebanon is being used as a whipping boy to deter the Arab countries surrounding Israel from banding together to fight them back. The international community is keeping silent because in the first place Israel has American support and secondly because it has been drummed into our subconciousness that anything you say against the Jews is anti Semitic and politically incorrect.
The bombing on both sides must stop now!

Yes - a bunch or terrorist thugs and murderers supported by Syria and Iran and hiding behind a weak government in Lebanon have kidnapped some Israeli soldiers and started (once again) firing rockets at innocent civilians.

As an inevitable consequence Israel felt it necessary to act to prevent such acts of terror and deal with the aforementioned terrorist thugs and the people that support them. As a further inevitable consequence innocent civilians are getting hurt, killed or forced to move to get out of the way.

This will continue until once again Israel feels that its security and the safety of its citizens is no longer under threat. Once Israel once again feels secure the killing and bombing in Lebanon will stop - and indeed it would stop today if Hezbullah disarmed themselves.

Peace will then return for a while until Hezbullah or some other bunch of terrorist thugs forget the lessons of their own recent history and start the cycle of violence all over again.

Israel and any other sovereign country in the world has the right to defend itself against attack by terrorists. In this respect Isreal is no different from any other country. Would the USA permit rockets to be fired at it from Mexico? Or Pakistan from India? Or Saudi Arabia from Kuwait? Or Germany from France? Of course not - the citizens of any country under attack have the right to expect that their government will do everything possible to stop such attacks.

If the Lebanese people object to the bombing why do so many of them seem to support Hezbullah? It is Hezbullah who have brought Israeli retaliation and it is Hezbullah who have it in their power to bring about the end of the conflict by ceasing all attacks on Israel and returning the kidnapped soldiers.

At first I was like it's about time Israel does what it has to do to defend itself. Then I began to put things into perspective.

The thing that I don't understand is the Israelis say that the kidnapping of MILITARYsoldiers and an attack at an MILITARY installation warrants them attacking a CIVILIAN airport. Yea I know that Hezbollah has fired rockets into their civilian centers, so go after Hezbollah and crush them using surgical strikes and special ops to knock them out. They say that the used the airport to funnel in weapons. Well if that is the case nip the problem in the bud and go after those countries that funnel in the weapons. Oops wait. That would happen to be Syria and Iran. That's not quite an easy of a fight as blowing up defenseless Lebanon.

Next excuse is, well the Lebanese government harbors Hizbollah and they allowed them to operate. What does this have to do with Lebanese civilians dying and suffering. Go after the Lebanese governement and military if you feel that way.

The Israeli Government and its actions are destroying my country, it's destroying Lebanon.
Listen, it was hizbullah that started the war and i am with the fact that Israel has the right to retaliate, but to go so far as to KILL 420 CIVILIANS? This is genocide, Israelis have copied what the german did to them 50 years ago and are doing the same, they are slaughtering women and children. HOw can any of this go on ? how can the world watch the crisis and not speak? If there is real justice in this world, then Olmert and his generals should be put on war crime tribunals. Who's with me?

Sadly, Israel is Bush's hit man, and got out of control, but Bush has ulterior plans for this conflict and will not bring up diplomacy until it suits him. I am amazed and disgusted that the UN hasn't stepped in. However, tens of thousands have died in Iraq and the UN has been useless as t!ts on a boar.

The Jews have been getting off for years on the civilized world's collective guilt over Hitler's genocide, now we find they are just as blood thirsty.

I am not with you, I am anti-war, period!

It’s called extermination. Israel had a right to retaliate until they started killing innocent civilians. Now that’s too far. Even though the terrorist are launching rockets into Israel and killing innocent civilians, that wasn’t until Israel started bombing them killing innocent civilians too. So in a way that’s what Israel gets for going to far. Now it looks like the Israeli mission is to kill as many people as possible without upsetting our (USA)Government. I think it’s about time Israel gets a taste of its own medicine
