Yes, it's true... the German-born Eric Braeden's real name is Hans Gudegast, and he played Capt. Hauptman Hans Dietrich on Rat Patrol.
He actually played a lot of German and Nazi roles, until the 1970's when he changed his name in an effort to change his image and typecasting.
