My notebook has to go out for repair this week. It's 2 months old and there's something wrong with the harddrive. It's a Compaq Presario V2000. Model#V2555CA. Can anybody tell me quick how to back up all my files to CD for free? And seeing as it's my hard drive, should I back IT up?

Several way, but my favourite is norton Ghost. this will make a replica of your hard drive that you can put on CD. If you don't have it, you can download it from Limewire.com

Another way to back up your data is to zip all your files using Winzip or WinRar.

if it's two mo old, all your datafiles should fit on a thumbdrive. The App files will need to be written to the new HD.

You DID create the Restore Discs?

Today, unless you build your own, the OS and all pre-installed aps come w/ no CDs.

Got MY HP outathe cardboard box and was PO that there were no CDs.

My PC required 9 $%&# CDs for the restore sector.

Try to drag the files to a blank cd, or drag the save memories.
