I know since Oprah is a national icon that everyone is going to want to follow her lead on this by "coming out" and saying that they aren't gay too. (Already today my boss came into my office to tell me he isn't gay and my mom called from Albuquerque to tell me she isn't gay either). Clearly it's a trend that can't be stopped.
Well, does that mean that all the gay-haters that flock to Yahoo Answers will start to argue that they aren't gay either? How can the truth be told?

Putin is not American. He is Russian...his life's experiences and history are Russian. Therefore, his thoughts will be Russian.
We are so self-righteous that we believe ours is the only right way, though perhaps it is right for us with OUR history. Thus, Putin refuses Americanization for a very valid reason.
Interesting turn of events is that we once condemned Russia for spying on it's citizens, and for having laws MUCH like our US Patriot Act.
Maybe the tables are turning. We are BECOMING what we feared and hated most.
