I have a house, barn and some land in France which I am trying to sell throught a friend who is an agent for the last year. I want to find a good agent to sell the property with out ripping me off as soon as possible. The house is in need of some renovations and so is not habitable.

JoJo - you might contact the consular mission in the largest nearby city representing either England, Canada, or the US for referrals. They often have to use such agents or refer people. Another way to locate a reliable agent is to contact some of the international corporations that have any offices or major facilities in the vicinity (if there are any). They have relocation programs for thier expatriate employees and use either local agents or people from major cities who are familiar with the area. Finally, you can communicate with the regional police prefecture for referrals to honest people. I do NOT suggest contacting either a chamber of commerce, city hall, or other municipal-type administrative office; these are often not very trustworthy. Although your property is in Bordeaux, a major agrarian area with solid businesses, it is also very much a good-ole-boy district and you are right to be wary. Good luck!

As french, i like to take heed to American people conversing french with a fine looking accent. it isn't any longer a subject matter if there are blunders as I savour myself that american each man or woman is extremely tolerant even as i'm conversing english with my french accent. i imagine that french people do not truly comprehend a tremendous kind of yankee vacationer, except in Paris. the acceptable way is to be your self, to attempt to maintain smiling. A pleasant smile can makes the door open each the position you bypass. Unfortunatly there are pleasant people everywhere and stupid people everywhere too yet this isn't a sparkling tips....Welcome in France !
