of course u can also chose one of the many sox's collopases...the yankees had a huge one 2 years ago as well... in football i think a huge one was when the Vikings 8-0 to start the season and then finished the season 8-8 ( I beileve) they may have won one game... For some reason i cannt recall l if this was the same year... i dont think it was...as another MInn. collopase. They were playing the cardnials in the last game of the season...they needed to win to get into the playoffs...they were winning the whole game...with like less than 3 minutes left they let the cardinals score...who then recovered an onside kick. now down by only 6... the cardinals then proceded to score on the very LAST play of the game... Minn know they had to go to the endzone...and they still didnt stop them...that was a meltdown

The greatest all-time meltdown was in golf when vandewhattshis blew a 2 shot lead at the Brittish Open on the 72nd hole. But since your question is in "baseball" the meltdown of the 2004 Yankees in the playoffs against the Red Sox when they were leading 3 games to none and lost the next 4!

The greatest meltdown in sport has to be the 1964 Philadelphia Phillies. With only 12 games left they were 6 ½ games up and proceeded to go 2-10 in those games missing the World Series. Sorry Red Sox fans but you made it to the World Series this team should have made it and didn’t. If you are talking Single game Meltdown then the Cubs a couple years back in the playoffs.

I have two, and one is very painful for me... so go a head and laugh, I don't care... at least I can admit it!!

1. 1986 World Series: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets

2. 2004 ALCS: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees

Yes, the 2nd one is painful for me...but all you really hateful Red Sox fans laugh... like I said I don't care... at least I can be a man and admit it was a total meltdown... and I would love to wish the same thing to happen to your team someday... but I'm not that kind of person... no fan of any team should have to go though what I did that year... very hurtful and painful... it's still hurts!

1978 Boston Red Sox. They were up 14-ish games in early August only to lose the lead to the NY Yankees. That was good for me :)

The 1951 Dodgers, who coughed up the pennant to the Giants on Bobby Thomson's "shot heard 'round the world" (immortalized by Russ Hodges' call "The Giants win the pennant!").
