Some say a couple of years of work experience is required before pursuing a master's. Others say it doesn't matter, you can do it immediately after the BA. What did you personally do? What would you advise?

I wanted to wait like 5 years, but I just couldn't do it. I was back within a year.
I would advise about a year or two. That's enough time to get the real world experince.

I went straight on from Bachelor's Degree to Master's and I found it a great experience... I was awarded a full scholarship and earned a stipend while working for various professors in my 2-year program... You don't need work experience first but sometimes it helps to land a job once you complete your master's...

It may depend on your major: education, business, medical field, etc., your drive, and your goals. I've taught for 15 years. I finished my bachelors during the spring of one, then began my masters that summer. I started teaching in the fall. I waited about 6-7 years to begin my specialist degree--now I'm working on my doctorate and haven't looked back or regreted it!

i say go straight into it and get it over with. i got my bachelors in psychology and currently getting my masters in social work. i applied before graduation and was accepted the same month i graduated. you dont want to wait becasue many people that do never come back. as far as experience most masters programs require field work or internships at your particular field to graduate. so you get experience while getting your masters.

I would do it straight through. My older brother did that, he got his Bachelors and went straight for the Masters. I'm doing the same only for PhD.

I began working on it the year I got my BS.

I earned it the following year.

Every program is different and time to finish is directly reflected by effort to start it. I was afraid I would never be able to start later, so I focused to get it going soon after graduating.

Good Luck!
