It is yellow with a black strip down it's back it came out when it heard the children and I scared it away or so I thought. then my 1yr old started crying and out it came again closer to the kids why.... we went in the house and watched the snake come up to the door then under a bush now I'm scared to walk out my door.. what kind is it and why is it come close to us?????

it's probably a garter snake. harmless.

Don't worry it is not poisonous, it is most likely a ribbon snake or a ribbon snake. It is in your garden eating insects and likes your house because it is a good place to get out of the sun. It is harmless, and is actually good to have around just leave it alone and it won't bother you

It's probably an asp and was looking for lunch- just kidding.
More than likely your and your kids carrying on scared the poor thing. It sounds like a harmless gartersnake. They make good pets and eat worms and mosquitos so why would you want to get rid of it.
Live and let live. Tell the kiddies to leave it alone and it will leave them alone.

completely harmless, as a matter of fact last time i saw one i picked it up and showed it to the kids in the neighborhood, they got a kick out of it, it really smelled tho, i think it was omitting an odor as a defense...
